William Morris designed Pimpernel in 1876 as a wallpaper with the design named after the small pimpernel flowers in the print rather than the poppies that dominate it.  Morris designed Acanthus in 1875 as a wallpaper requiring thirty wood blocks to print the full repeat and used fifteen subtly different colours (more than any previous design by Morris).
